U.S. Army Recognized for Online Recruiting Excellence

Feb 18, 2010

WASHINGTON (February 17, 2010) – The U.S. Army’s innovation in online recruiting strategy was honored today at the Fourth Annual Human Capital Management For Defense (HCMD 2010) Awards Ceremony, the defense industry’s recognition of excellence in workforce administration.

U.S. Army Accessions Command (USAAC) won “Most Innovative Recruitment Program” for its array of outreach initiatives in cyberspace. Among these are “Sgt. Star” and “Ask A Soldier” on www.goarmy.com, social media work on Facebook, and the data collection that USAAC realizes from these promotional efforts.

"The Digital Division of USAAC’s Marketing and Outreach Directorate keep goarmy.com relevant and productive," said Lt. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley, Commanding General of U.S. Army Accessions Command.

“It is superb to see our team recognized this way,” he said. “Our online programs harness the social power of the Internet to keep America’s Army strong and ready. Goarmy.com is a critical information source for young people considering a path to Army service.”

In addition to goarmy.com, the official recruiting Web site, the Army has presence on several social networking sites including Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube. The Army has also developed a blogging platform, ArmyStrongStories.com, where Soldiers can share their perspectives through blog posts, photos and video, as well as interact with those looking to learn more about Army life. In addition, people can learn about the Army’s commitment to education on ArmyEdSpace.com.

The U.S. Army Accessions Command (USAAC), a subordinate command of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, meets the human resource needs of the Army by transforming volunteers into officers, warrant officers, and enlisted Soldiers. In providing the force, the 18,400 men and women of Accessions Command prepare these future Soldiers and leaders for their initial military training. Commanded by Lt. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley, USAAC is located at Fort Knox, Ky., and Fort Monroe, Va.
