Aug 13, 2010

U.S. ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL ANNOUNCES 2011 GAME DATE

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl announced that the 2011 game will take place on Saturday, January 8, at 1:00 PM (EDT). For more than ten years the Bowl has been the stepping stone for many of the nation’s elite college and NFL players. The annual game will be played in San Antonio’s Alamodome and broadcast live on NBC.

For the past decade, the game has featured the nation’s most elite football players and honored hundreds of the most committed Soldier Heroes. It has been a launching pad for college and NFL stars such as Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Mark Sanchez, Ndamukong Suh, Tim Tebow and Terrelle Pryor.  In addition to more than 500 NCAA athletes, the game has more than 100 alumni currently playing in the NFL, including eight first round picks in the 2010 NFL Draft. Already, several of the nation’s top-ranked juniors have committed to play in the 2011 Bowl.

“The U.S. Army All-American Bowl provides the national platform for elite athletes and musician’s to showcase their talents,” said Colonel Derik Crotts, Director of Marketing and Outreach, U.S. Army Accessions Command. “The Army is proud to celebrate the hundreds of athletes, musicians and Army Strong Soldiers who have participated in the Bowl in the past ten years, and looks forward to welcoming a new group of participants and celebrating the 2011 game.”

The 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl drew a crowd of more than 34,000 to the Alamodome, garnering a 1.4 U.S. household rating on NBC. The Bowl was the highest-rated sports event of the weekend other than the NFL Playoff games.

The U.S. Army Accessions Command (USAAC), a subordinate command of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, meets the human resource needs of the Army by transforming volunteers into officers, warrant officers, and enlisted Soldiers.  In providing the force, the 18,400 men and women of Accessions Command prepare these future Soldiers and leaders for their initial military training. Commanded by Lt. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley, USAAC is located at Fort Knox, Ky.
